As part of a wider cultural program on Sri-Lankan culture, CoLaborator Film and Arcub asked me to illustrate this collection of folk tales to be published as a bilangual book for kids. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to learn more about their myths, legends and traditions as well as their beautiful costumes and intricate patterns. The texts were picked, translated and adapted by writer Lavinia Braniste. I chose to take inspiration from their batik and tapestry tradition in developing the visual language and layout of the book. That's why the cover is designed as one long tapestry (front and back) with diferent panels from several tales. Each tale inside had a cover illustration mimicking a tapestry with panels containing the main characters or scenes. Each page had an intricate border and the poems section also had spot illustrations.
